What does sustainability mean to Network International?

Sustainability refers to doing business without negatively impacting the environment, community, or society as a whole. Network International’s key focus is on 5 areas, and it is our goal to make a positive impact in both by empowering our staff and our business relationships to transition to a more sustainable model of work.

We plan to reduce diesel and plastic usage. By installing solar panels we will reduce our dependency and usage of electricity. By investing in preservation and biodiversity, we are helping our environment.

Environment

diesel

As a business we are focused on reducing carbon emissions from the vehicles we operate. Emissions from diesel engines contribute to the production of ground-level ozone which damages crops, trees and other vegetation as well as entering the food chain via water and subsequently meat and fish.

goal

To replace all of our diesel vehicles with Hybrid and or Bio Fuels by 2025 and have a fully electric fleet by 2030.

water

A recent staff survey highlighted the widespread use of bottled water by employees.
sustainability

goal

To eliminate the need for staff to bring bottled water to work and implement a solution to Reduce and Reuse.

outcome

We commenced an educational campaign with our staff to drive awareness and introduced sustainable water stations with reusable and sustainable bottles. This small step has removed thousands of bottles of water from circulation amongst staff - bottles that might otherwise have ended up in landfill.

energy

The cost of energy has risen exponentially in the last while. Network International are committed to reducing their impact on the environment in several ways.
solar panrls

goal

  • To reduce dependency on the National Grid by installing solar panels on the roofs and generating our own energy and provide surplus energy to the Grid.

  • To reduce energy consumption by replacing all traditional fluorescent bulbs.

  • To install motion – activated lights so the lights are on only when needed.

outcome

LED Lighting was installed which will have a positive sustainable impact on the environment by reducing electricity consumption and reducing the company’s carbon footprint in the process. The solar panels and motion - activated lights are currently being installed.

why preservation & biodiversity matters

To play our part in preserving the ecosystem. Bees help to pollinate the majority of the planet's wild plants, which support healthy ecosystems. In our small way we are supporting and encouraging bee activity in our garden.

outcome

By supporting and encouraging more bee activity we know our bees will help in some way - our food supply, to provide fibres, oils, and other raw materials. They can also help create many medicines, provide food for wildlife, and help prevent soil erosion.

Society

diversity

The presence of differences within a given setting. Network International are committed to embracing differences in the workplace including race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, physical ability and socioeconomic class.

why diversity matters

Different perspectives directly influence how we learn, understand, change and help us improve decision making. People from different backgrounds with varying life experiences provide new perspectives that help refine and enhance processes. Diversity lends itself to innovation. People with differing opinions and backgrounds approach problems differently and propose unique solutions.

The more diverse voices in the room the better the outcomes will be.

equity

The process of ensuring that processes and programs are impartial, fair and provide equal possible outcomes for every individual.

why equity matters

To ensure equal circumstances and opportunities for all individuals within our organisation.

inclusion

The practise of ensuring that people feel a sense of belonging in the workplace. We want to ensure that all employees feel a sense of belonging in Network International. This means that they feel supported by the organisation.

Every employee should feel valued at work, by their peers and their employer.

why inclusion matters

While the workplace requires professionalism, an inclusive culture should not bar individuals from being themselves. Individuals should not feel that they have to change something about themselves. Inclusion is what maintains diversity.
People want to belong and Network International are fully committed to ensuring that we build a strong culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that makes that happen.
